“True discipline takes heightened awareness and self-mastery. There is no such thing as sacrifice. There are only choices.” – Rhonda Britten
Thinking and Doing.
I happened upon this quote on my iGoogle and it made me to reflect, albeit briefly
, on the marathon training I recently embarqed on. On any given day, I have a tendency to tell my friends, coworkers, and even family, that I cannot attend “x” or I cannot do “y” because I have to run “z” miles.
Not anymore. I am making a choice to run instead of going shopping with friends or attend an event after work. The hubs may want to partake in our once Sunday ritual of laziness relaxation, but I choose to instead embark on my own half marathon. Sacrifice? How so?
So friend/family/dog, if you are reading this: when it is the dead of winter (as dead as winter can be in NC) and I am bitching about running 20 miles on the weekend, tell me to cut the crap. Just say it with a smile.
Ooooo I love this quote! Thanks for sharing. This photo reminds me of CT…I miss the long, flat roads, but maybe I am romanticizing what I don’t have!
I totally commend you for doing this training. I think it’s awesome! I’ve always wanted to run a half marathon. I just lack the motivation to actually do it. But, I’ve started running again (as in, this week. lol) and you are definitely motivation to make it happen!! And I love that you LOVE running. Hopefully I will get there again at some point
Mary, the picture definitely reminds me of CT or maybe where my parents now live in PA. I was feeling a bit nostalgic.
Brittany, I was never a runner and was never a big fan of it. Even in college I was much more of an sporadic elliptical-loving gym rat (as in I was only a gym rat before spring break or summer) who dabbled in lacrosse. Let me know if you want to run together!
